The vital challenge for a man today is to risk shifting from being in the world in a heroic manner and to move
towards a more collaborative way.
Questions which were explored in this workshop included:
*What does success mean for you?
*Once you got what you wanted, would that be enough?
*Could it be that failure is valuable?
*What judgements or beliefs do you need to let go of?
*How has blind obedience to our teachers served us as men?
*If you were the leader you could be, what would you be doing?
Participants found this workshop a meaningful and inspiring experience.
**CONFLICT RESOLUTION TRAINING

**COURAGEOUS LIVING

The traditional masculine mode of heroic doing and performing often alienates
us from our true selves and others. It’s time to embrace a change. This
experiential workshop will consider the inherited legacy of men and
explore new ways of being in the world together with collaborative
forms of leadership and community.

**COMMUNICATION & ASSERTIVENESS SKILLS
FACILITATOR: Haulie Dowd, experienced trainer and workshop facilitator

Many of us men seek to improve our communication skills. Often due to problems in
communicating, our relationships suffer and we cannot get our needs met. Anger
frequently ensues, alienating us further from others. This workshop helped
us improve our skills in expressing feelings and negotiating to have our needs met.

**THE SEARCH FOR PERSONAL FULFILMENT
FACILITATOR: Michael Hardiman, a psychologist and author of Ordinary
Heroes - a personal development book for men.
VENUE: Suaimhneas, Renmore, Galway
DATES: March 13th & 14th 2004
Often a man looses sight of what is important in his life. He may forget his real
self through work and other commitments. This workshop helped men to begin to identify
and focus on what they need to live an authentic and fulfilled life.

**PERSONAL EMPOWERMENT & SELF ESTEEM
FACILITATOR: Michael Frawley, an experienced therapist and workshop
facilitator living in Galway.
VENUE: Suaimhneas, Renmore, Galway

Many men feel uncertain and inadequate in their lives. This workshop provided
men with a safe space to share on these issues and to begin to
work through them.

**EXPRESS YOURSELF THROUGH CREATIVE WRITING
FACILITATOR: Kevin Higgins, poet living in Galway and author of
The Boy With No Face(2005)

In this series of four workshops participants had
opportunities to explore and express themselves on some
of the issues central to their lives, as men.
The atmosphere was non-judgmental, encouraging
and sociable.
No previous experience of creative writing was necessary.
**ART AS THERAPY FOR MEN
FACILITATOR: Rupert Cracknell, who has worked as an art therapist since the early sixties.
He is currently teaching art therapy at the Crawford College of Art, Cork
VENUE: Jesuit Centre, Sea Road, Galway
DATES: Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd Ferruary 2003
In this workshop participants had
opportunities to explore and express themselves on some
of the issues central to their lives as men, using various artistic media.
The atmosphere was non-judgmental, encouraging
and sociable.
No previous experience of art was necessary.
**HEALING WOUNDS
FACILITATOR: B. Divilly MA, DMT who is a member of the Irish Association of Creative Art's Therapists
(I.A.C.A.T.) and who has trained in movement therapy in Ireland and in the USA.

In this workshop participants had

**WORDS, MOVEMENT & SOUL
FACILITATOR: Kalichi, who has been teaching workshops throughout Ireland, UK and USA
since 1979
VENUE: The Jesuit Centre, Sea Road, Galway
DATES: Friday 3rd & Saturday 4th March
This workshop was an opportunity for men to explore with others, ways of relaxing imagination
from entrapment in the stuckness of the mind & body through movement, voice
and story.
**MEN & AGGRESSION
FACILITATORS: Timothy Tate, Men's Workshop Leader and Psychotherapist from Montana, USA:
John Moriarty, Philosopher and Spiritual Teacher from Kerry, Ireland.
Roy Arbuckle, Musician and Workshop Facilitator from Northern Ireland.
VENUE: A Residential Retreat at The Esker Retreat Centre, Athenry, Co. Galway
DATES: Friday 2nd, Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th March 2001
This workshop helped us become aware of and acknowledge our aggression. It also helped
us with ways to manage aggression in our daily lives. Ritual and story were key
elements of the weekend.
This workshop was highly successful, both in terms of
the large number of men attending and the positive written feedback received
from applicants. Men from all over Ireland attended this event.
